Summary
HabitArc is a habit tracker for the web, Android and iOS. We collect only what is needed to save your habits, sync them across your devices and keep the app working. We do not sell your data or show ads, and what you write (habit names, journal entries) is never used for analytics or advertising.
Who we are
HabitArc ("we", "us") is an independent app operated by Bipin Suthar. Questions about this policy or your data: support.habitarc@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account details. If you create an account: your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and email that Google or Apple shares with us (with Apple you can choose to hide your email, and we then get a private relay address). If you use HabitArc as a guest, we create an anonymous account identified only by a random ID.
- Content you add. Your name and profile photo (both optional), habits and their settings, daily check-ins and amounts, arcs (challenges), streak history, mood ratings and journal entries.
- Squads. If you join a squad, its members see your name, your profile photo (if you set one), cheers, and a daily summary of the arc you share: day number, habits done out of total, whether you won the day, and your streak. They never see your check-ins for individual habits or your journal. If the squad is on an arc you made yourself, anyone with its invite link can see that arc's setup (its name, length, and each habit's name, emoji and goal) so they can do the same arc; your progress and history are never included.
- Purchases. If you buy HabitArc Pro, Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS) handles the payment; we never see your card details. The app reads your Pro status from that store on your device, and the order is tagged with your account's random ID. Our server checks each purchase with the store to confirm it. If usage analytics is on, we also record that a purchase happened and which plan (monthly, yearly or lifetime).
- Usage analytics (optional). Simple events such as "habit created" or "focus started", with counts, linked to your account's random ID. Never habit names, journal text or your email. You can turn this off any time in Profile → Settings → Share anonymous usage data.
- Crash reports. When the app crashes or hits an error, a technical report (the error, app version, device model and OS version) is sent to Sentry, linked to your account's random ID.
- Feedback and AI reports. If you send feedback: your message, an optional contact, and the app version, platform, OS version and language. If you use “Report” under AI-written text, we also receive that text, the reason you picked and your optional comment, so we can improve it.
- Technical data. Our hosting and database providers keep standard server logs (such as IP address, device and browser type, and request times) for security and reliability.
- Health Connect (Android, optional). Only if you link a habit to it, and only the types you allow: steps, exercise sessions (including their type, to find your runs), distance (only during runs, for a running-distance habit), sleep sessions, water (hydration) and mindfulness sessions. HabitArc reads them on your device and turns them into one daily total per linked habit (for example "8,412 steps" or "7.2 h"), which is saved and synced like any amount you enter yourself. Individual records, workouts and sleep stages are never uploaded. HabitArc never writes to Health Connect.
- Apple Health (iOS, optional). Only if you link a habit to it, and only the types you allow in Apple's Health permission sheet: steps, exercise minutes, workouts (to find your runs) and the walking/running distance recorded during them, sleep (asleep time only), water and mindful minutes. Like Health Connect, HabitArc reads them on your iPhone and turns them into one daily total per linked habit, which is saved and synced like any amount you enter yourself. Individual samples, workouts and sleep stages are never uploaded. HabitArc never writes to Apple Health.
- Contacts (optional). If you invite friends to a squad from your contacts, the app reads names and phone numbers on your device to show the list. They are never uploaded or stored by us; each invite is a WhatsApp or SMS message you send yourself. The app only remembers, on your device, which contacts you've already invited.
- AI coach (Pro, optional). When you ask for your weekly plan, the app sends a summary of your stats (habit names and emojis, goals, schedules, completion rates, streaks, mood averages and the patterns shown in Insights) to Anthropic, which writes the note. Your journal text, email and name are never sent. The note is saved with your account so it isn't written twice.
- AI arc builder (Pro, optional). When you ask it to build an arc, the app sends the goal you typed and the names of the habits you already track to Anthropic, which designs the arc. Nothing else is sent, and the goal isn't stored by us.
- Small AI helpers (optional). Only when you use them, the app sends Anthropic what each one needs: the habit you describe (plus the names of habits you already track) to fill in a new habit; one habit's name, goal, schedule and its last-30-day numbers for an easier or next-level suggestion; and, after a slip on a habit you're quitting, that habit's name and its slip and clean-day counts. Nothing else is sent, and none of it is stored by us apart from a count of uses (for monthly limits).
- AI chat assistant (optional). When you send a message in the chat, the app sends it to Anthropic along with your last 20 chat messages and a snapshot of your app: your name (if you set one), your habits (names, emojis, goals, schedules, today's check-ins, streaks and recent completion rates), your running arcs, your overall streak and whether you're on Pro. Your journal text and email are never sent. Your chat messages and the assistant's replies are saved with your account so you can see them on any device; you can clear them any time in the chat (🗑), and they're deleted with your account. We count messages to apply daily limits.
- Your permission for AI. In the mobile apps, before any of the AI features above sends anything to Anthropic for the first time, the app asks for your permission and lists what may be sent. You can turn the AI features off at any time in Profile → Settings → AI features.
- Cookies and browser storage (website). The website uses cookies to keep you signed in and your browser's storage for preferences. If usage analytics is on, PostHog also keeps a random ID there. We don't use advertising cookies.
- On your device only. Preferences such as your season theme, language and reminder times are stored on your device. Reminders are scheduled on your device.
We do not collect your contacts, location, microphone or payment card details. The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to set a profile photo, and only the photo you pick is uploaded.
Place reminders (optional). Only if you add a place to a habit, HabitArc uses your device's location, including in the background, to remind you when you arrive at or leave that place. The place and your location stay on your phone: they are never uploaded, shared or used for advertising. You can remove the place in the habit's settings, or turn off location access for HabitArc at any time in your phone's settings.
How we use it
- To provide the app: save your habits, calculate streaks and insights, and sync across your devices.
- To run squads you join, and to unlock Pro when you buy it.
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To create share images when you tap "Share".
- To find and fix bugs (crash reports) and to see which features are used (usage analytics, if on).
- To respond when you contact us.
We never use your journal or habit data for advertising, and we don't sell or rent personal data to anyone.
Health Connect data is used only to fill in the habits you linked. It is never used for advertising, never sold, never shared with data brokers, and never used to decide eligibility for credit or insurance. Our use follows the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements. You can unlink a habit in its settings, or remove HabitArc's access at any time in Health Connect.
Apple Health data is used only to fill in the habits you linked. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared with data brokers or other third parties, and never used to decide eligibility for credit or insurance. The AI features never receive Apple Health amounts: for a habit linked to Apple Health, the chat assistant only sees whether it's done. You can unlink a habit in its settings, or remove HabitArc's access at any time in the Health app (Sharing → Apps → HabitArc) or in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers who process data on our behalf, only to run HabitArc:
- Supabase stores your account, app data and profile photo, and handles sign-in.
- Vercel hosts the website and the share-image service.
- Google handles "Continue with Google" sign-in, if you choose it.
- Google processes Pro payments through Google Play.
- Apple handles "Sign in with Apple", if you choose it, and processes Pro payments through the App Store.
- PostHog receives usage analytics, if you leave it on.
- Sentry receives crash reports.
- Anthropic (Claude) writes AI coach notes from your stats summary, designs AI-built arcs from your goal, writes the small AI helpers' suggestions and answers in the chat assistant, only when you ask. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.
- Expo provides the framework used to build and update the mobile apps.
- jsDelivr delivers the extra fonts in Settings → Font, the first time you preview or pick one. Like any download, it sees your IP address; nothing about you or your habits is sent.
These providers may process data in countries other than yours, under their own security and privacy commitments.
Security
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Database access rules make sure each account can only read and change its own data, plus what squad members share with each other. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and keep access to a minimum.
Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Guest accounts that are never upgraded may be deleted after a long period of inactivity. When you delete your account in the app, your data and photo are removed from our database straight away; deletions requested by email are completed within 30 days. Limited server logs, crash reports and analytics events expire on their own schedule.
Your choices and rights
- Export: download all your data any time from Profile → Settings → Export my data.
- Erase your content: Profile → Settings → Danger zone → Reset everything deletes all your habits, arcs, history and journal entries immediately.
- Delete your account in the app: Profile → Settings → Danger zone → Delete account. This immediately and permanently deletes your account and all its data: habits, arcs, history, journal entries, your profile photo and squad memberships. Feedback you sent is kept without anything linking it to you. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a HabitArc Pro subscription; cancel it in your Google Play or App Store subscriptions.
- Delete your account without the app: email support.habitarc@gmail.com from the address on your account (or include your guest ID) with the subject "Delete my HabitArc account". We'll delete your account and all associated data within 30 days and confirm by email.
- Usage analytics: turn it off in Profile → Settings → Share anonymous usage data.
- Access or correct: you can view and edit everything in the app, or ask us for a copy.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. Contact us to use them.
Children
HabitArc is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app.
